After several years of navigating the sparse investment ecosystem in Europe, we are preparing to move the company to the USA.
As a deep-tech start-up, we obviously need money to fund our scientific research, technological developments, and all the costly compute-infrastructure that goes with it. That means we require an investment ecosystem that understands both the obstacles and massive potential that are linked to deep-tech developments. Unfortunately, Europe in general and specifically the Netherlands, lacks such an ecosystem. After long deliberation with the team, we've decided that, for MIND|CONSTRUCT to be successful, we need to be where the action is. And if we are talking fundamental R&D in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, unfortunately Europe isn't the place to be. The current European investment ecosystem has been researched by many organizations, including EU-council subsidiaries, and the results are not hopeful. |
So we have started researching our options and came to the conclusion that the USA, and specifically the Boston area, has the greatest possibilities and opportunities for our company. Being close to MIT will provide us with access to the talent-pool we surely need in the coming years. And several Robotics startups and Artificial Intelligence startups that spun out of MIT will give many chances for joint R&D and other forms of cooperation. In the coming months, we will move to a leaner operational outfit, to make the transition possible. We still need to research a lot of organizational, operational, and legal matters before we can actually make the move, so this process will take quite a while, but we are excited to proceed in this direction. Meanwhile, our actual research and development for the ASTRID-system will move forward as planned. |
